You will see how plants and butterflies help protect our watershed – and learn how to bring them back to healthy abundance – as well as other opportunities to learn about the lake and how you can help it from a wealth of organizations who will be on hand throughout the day.   You can try your hand at arts and crafts and take a tour on the Innisfil Rotary Train.  Lots of places to take selfies throughout the park too.  Live music is provided by Innisfil’s own Bridget Gowan.

Other highlights include the second annual Lake Simcoe Swim, sponsored by Can-Aqua, for people who like a challenge.  There will be 1k, 3k and 5k swims for you to choose from.  You can register at the park the morning of Celebrate Lake Simcoe.   The swims begin promptly at 10AM.

We are very excited this year to have our first Lake Simcoe Regatta organized through the Cook Bay Yacht Club and featuring boats from around the lake.  The sail past begins at the south end of the park at 12:30PM.  You don’t want to miss this!

Director of Celebrate Lake Simcoe, Anita Vanderdonk, says, “Once again we are partnering with the award-winning SPLASH Festival, an undertaking of the Ontario Water Centre.   Celebrate Lake Simcoe and SPLASH hold the same vision: bringing people and nature together to benefit both.  This annual event raises awareness of our best resource.  Love Lake Simcoe – Feel Good.”

Highlights of Celebrate Lake Simcoe 2014

Celebrate Lake Simcoe joined with The SPLASH Floating Water Festival, as one of its four events this summer to present an exciting, fun-filled day loaded with learning experiences for adults and children alike.

Held at Innisfil Beach Park, Innisfil Ontario we looked at Lake Simcoe as it was in the 1920s, while promoting a sound ecological future. Everyone can help bring the lake back to a healthy condition - with people and nature existing happily together.

Back in the 20s, Innisfil was a rollicking place with dance halls, a thriving ice industry and a place where cottagers regularly swam across the bay for fun. Highlights included a charitable lake swim and a "temperance" music tent where visitors can dance to big band sounds, join in a square dance or just sit and sip lemonade while listening to mellow songs. Families learned about the plants and butterflies that were prevalent in an earlier era and helped protect our waters and ways to help bring them back to healthy abundance, and much, much more.

It was a great day, thank you to all our sponsors and those that came out to make the 5th Annual Celebrate Lake Simcoe a very successful day.

Special thank you to Bruno's Bakery and Pasta Plus for donating the food for our swimmers, as well 2/4/1 for donated pizzas for the volunteers, Sobey's in Alcona for the Lemonade at the lemonade stand, No Frills for all the paper plates, napkins and cutlery, and Tim Horton for all the much needed coffee and timbits that helped start our day.

See you next year. — at Innisfil Beach Park.

The Fourth Annual Celebrate Lake Simcoe will take place:

Saturday, July 13, 2013
Innisfil Beach Park, in Innisfil
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This year the focus is on recreation on, in, over and beside the lake and how it impacts the health of the lake.
Come out and learn more about how we can all help our lake recover and remain the pride and pleasure of our Simcoe communities now and in the future.  Try out some non-invasive water sports off the beach.  Hear about the Ministry of the Environment’s Recreation Strategy for the lake.  Learn how your lake activities can be healthier for Lake Simcoe as well as your own health and well-being.

There will be activities for the entire family including entertainment, contests and interactive displays about the history of Lake Simcoe, the environmental concerns for the lake today and a vision for tomorrow.

Innisfil Beach Park is located on the western shore of Lake Simcoe at the eastern end of Innisfil Beach Road.  The park boasts several clean beaches, boat launch, public dock, a walking/cycling path, good parking, snack bar and picnic areas.  Parking is free for Innisfil residents.
